I Am Trying Something New. And I Need Your Help.

Can I tell you something I have not told anyone yet?

I am building something brand new. And I am equal parts excited and nervous which honestly feels a lot like being ten year old Mel getting ready to salute the judges on floor exercise at a competition in Nevada and throw a skill in my routine that I had never done by myself before.

Let me explain.

From the ages of 7-22, I was a competitive gymnast. And at one particular competition in Reno, Nevada, while warming up on floor exercise, my coach asked if I wanted to try a skill in my floor routine that I had been training but had never actually done by myself. Never in competition. Never without a spot. He was just like, “Hey Mel, do you want to try doing your double back today?”

And you know what I said? I said yes. Because I trusted my coach. Because I trusted my training. Because I trusted myself. Because somewhere inside that ten-year-old girl was a voice that said “if he thinks I’ve got it, then I’ve got it.”

Now I will be honest with you. I did have a moment of hesitation before I said yes. I absolutely paused like “now what now?!”. And seeing my hesitation, however slight it might have been, my coach decided to sweeten the deal. He said if I landed it, he would give me $50 dollars. And then another coach I respected doubled-down and said he’d give me another $50 dollars! As a ten-year-old girl that had just spent a ton of money playing games at Circus Circus, I thought to myself “Now you’re talking!”

So I did it. And I nailed it. And I won $100 dollars. And I walked off that floor feeling “bad to the bone.” (That was my floor music).

I am back in that “bad to the bone” moment right now.

This spring feels different than springs before it. I am building something new for MDG Law Virtual - a free resource specifically for you, for the solopreneur and small business owner who is out here figuring it out, building something real, and doing a lot of it alone. I am focused in a way I have not been in a while. I am excited in a way that feels like it did when I first launched. I am trying new things, reframing how I think about my business, and leaning into the support of the people around me who keep telling me “You’ve got this Mel. Just go”.

And just like that ten-year-old gymnast needed her coaches in her corner, I need you in mine.

Here is what I mean.

Before I build a single thing, I want to make sure I am building the right thing. Not what I assume you need. Not what I think would be helpful based on my own experience. What you actually need. What is actually going on in your business right now. What would make you open a free resource and think “Finally, this is exactly what I was looking for.”

The only way I can do that is if you tell me.

So I put together four questions. They will take you five to ten minutes. And I am asking you to actually sit with them because I want real answers, not quick ones. I want to know what is actually happening in your world. What is hard. What you are looking for. How you like to learn. What would actually help.

I am reading every single response personally. Not a team member. Not an assistant. Me. Sitting with what you share and letting it shape what I build.

This is me standing at the edge of the floor again. And just like that competition in Nevada, I have got good people in my corner telling me I have got this. Now I just need you to tell me what to build.

And if you know another business owner who is in the thick of building or growing right now, please share this with them. The more I hear, the better what I build will be. And everything I build, I build for you.

Thank you for being here. Thank you for trusting me. And thank you for taking a few minutes to help me get this right.

Mel
